When empty shelves are a good thing…

Hunger and Thirst

Isaiah 49:10

“They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat down on them. He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them besides springs of water.”

The above is the promise that God will protect and provide for the people even in the scorching heat of the barren wilderness. In the wilderness, the place where there are little to no supplies, it is God who promises to protect and provide exactly what is needed. In the dangerous wilderness, God will keep their lives refreshed by leading them to what they will need most to survive- water.

I posted the remarkable photo above. We have been to stores to find there is no toilet paper, Kleenex, hand sanitizer, etc flying off the shelf. It has been disheartening and even scary to know we can run out of essential goods and supplies. But during this time of pandemic, I was delighted for the very first time to see a store shelf raided empty! The picture above is in the book department of a store and it is where one would find the Bibles! People have obviously made a run on the Bible inventory and I couldn’t think of a healthier resource to seek (in any time). In this difficult, trying time people are starting to think about their truest and greatest source of help and salvation. Apparently, many people are awakening to the One who could be their true protector and provider as God was for the people in the Old Testament and as we believe God is for us. This photo encouraged me to encourage you to keep praying for our world and our nation. Maybe in the midst of these chaotic times and not so certain future, more people will turn to God- the God who can heal our land.

I hope the promise from Isaiah brings you comfort, but may it also begin to comfort those who are now opening their newly purchased Bibles!

Peace be with you,

Dr. Brian Wiggins
